CALL FOR PAPERS - Advanced Robotics - Special Issue on: 'Legal and Safety Constraints and Solutions for Service Robots Deployment'
DEADLINE: September, 30 2009

Abstract

A new generation of service robots characterized by interacting and coexisting with human beings in urban environments is currently being developed worldwide. These new robots are designed for accomplishing several kind of tasks, such as guiding of human beings, object and human transportation, urban cleaning and waste collection. This half day workshop will offer an international and interdisciplinary outlook on the many legal and safety issues related to the actual deployment of service robots in urban environments. As a matter of fact, this new generation of robots opens up new challenges in the current legal systems, which may represent a hindrance to the robot potential commercialization in the near future. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together engineers, legal experts, policy makers and industrial representatives with the common purpose to identify the legal issues related to service robots applications and discuss possible solutions. Topics to be addressed during the workshop include: methods for robot safety and risk evaluation, autonomous mobile robots and road traffic law, robot insurance, service robot and international standards.

List of Topics

The workshop is of interest to all those involved in the service robotics field, and especially to those who have an interest in the commercialization/marketability of service robots applications, such as robot designers and industrial developers. Moreover, the workshop will be of interest to policy makers, lawyers and insurance companies.
